Cataract Story from Susan

Susan B shared her story:

“Before the cataract surgery I did have difficulty with my vision driving at night. It is much improved now. Also did need my reading glasses for many close-up activities like hand sewing. Now I do not need my glasses even to thread the needle!!!! I was a bit apprehensive about the surgery even though it was all explained to me in Dr. D’Ambrosio’s office. The staff at the Cataract & Laser Center were all very helpful and polite - did make me feel at ease - at ease as much as possible under the circumstances. There was no pain after the surgery. My right eye did clear up within a couple of days and my sight improved. My left eye took quite a bit longer. Now a few months after the surgery I am pleased with my improved eyesight. I really do not even need to wear those old glasses anymore! I choose the Premium Multifocal IOL with Laser Option even though there was out of pocket additional expense.

Field Hockey Eye Injury Reduced with Mandatory Eyewear

Avoid Sports Eye Injury with Protective Eyewear
According to research on data from the High School Reporting Information Online database and from a Virginia school district that includes 25 high schools, recorded between 2009 and 2013, analyzed and published in the journal Pediatrics, the use of mandatory protective eyewear by female field hockey players has reduced incidences of eye and orbital injuries, as well as severe face and head injuries. Among female U.S. high school field hockey players, a national mandate for protective eyewear has been associated with a greater than threefold reduced risk of eye and orbital injuries and a decreased incidence of severe eye and orbital as well as head and face injuries. This information supports a policy change and implementation of the mandatory use of protective equipment in field hockey at all amateur levels.

Droopy Eyebrow a Problem?

What’s a Droopy Eyebrow?
A droopy eyebrow of “brow ptosis” sometimes gets confused with a droopy eyelid or even excess skin on the eyelid. In fact, it isn’t terribly uncommon for patients come in to see me asking about a cosmetic eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty because they have tired looking eyes. We have to be thorough and makes sure that we identify and deal with all the factors that contribute to the appearance of tired eyes. Sometimes I have to show patients the difference between a droopy eyelid-called eyelid ptosis, excess eyelid skin and a droopy eyebrow or brow ptosis. A droopy eyebrow will push the upper eyelid skin further down and cause the appearance of eyelid puffiness and excess eyelid skin, to seem worse. When this is present, blepharoplasty alone may not be sufficient to achieve the best results. Many patients may not be aware that their brow is droopy. Endoscopic forehead lifting through small incisions at the edge of the hairline is an excellent cosmetic technique to elevate the forehead and eyebrow areas. This technique also helps smooth out forehead wrinkles. It is often combined with upper eyelid blepharoplasty.
